Top 5 Tips for a High Performing LinkedIn Profile
2019 is LinkedIn’s Comeback Year.
While organic reach is rapidly declining across all other platforms, we’ve suddenly remembered LinkedIn and, as it turns out, this platform hasn’t been saturated by paid promotion and the algorithm is still kind to everyone.
On LinkedIn, you’ll find an incredibly supportive community who are quick to help, give fantastic ideas and insights, and will freely – and thoughtfully – comment on your posts.
Sounds awesome right! That’s because it is.
If you are in ANY type of business and you aren’t focussing on LinkedIn, my advice is to get there quick – while it’s still pure, before it gets corrupted by advertising and algorithm antics.
To make the most of LinkedIn you must have a high performing profile, and here are my top 5 tips on how to get it:
1. Imagery
Your profile photo and banner should represent YOU. Focus on your personal branding by using photos of you for both image opportunities
2. Headline
Not the place for your job title, this is where you summarise who you serve and the valuable results you deliver.
3. Summary
Focus on who you help and how you help them. Make it clear what you offer and the value of it. Upload Media links in the form of documents, photos, video links, website links, presentations – this section is a mini-website if you use it effectively.
4. Experience
This should tell a story about who you are, what you’ve done, what you’ve learned along the way. Less of a traditional CV of employment and more of a This Is My Life! This style of writing for Experience is something I just thought of recently and it’s completely changed the feel of my profile.
5. Recommendations
Recommendations Sell. Aim to be THE most recommended person in your industry. Ask everyone whose worked with you for a recommendation. Never write them yourself. Offer some guidance questions to about 35% of people you ask to help them explain the journey of working with you (before, during and after). Loads of recommendations that follow the same style will look inauthentic plus you should want to hear what your clients truly think about you.
Most of all: enjoy it. Expand your network, share your ideas, engage with your contacts, learn and seek out opportunities to collaborate.
Yes, 2019 is The Year of LinkedIn…see you there!
