how to eliminate distraction as a solopreneur so you and your business can grow

YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS : HOW TO ELIMINATE 8 DISTRACTIONS AND FIND CLARITY

If you are consistently distracted your business will fail.

[Note: I said your business will fail, not you will fail – there’s a huge distinction and separating your ‘self’ from your ‘business’ is a necessary business owner mindset shift]

As a fellow female solopreneur, I know first-hand the challenges that come with starting and growing an online business.

And challenges don’t come much bigger in the online world than distraction.

It’s the thing challenging members of The Soulpreneur Success Hub right now, so I decided to compile a list of things to watch out for, and how to eliminate these distractions once and for all!

The list of distractions in the online business world can feel endless.

They pull us away from our goals, wake-up the mindset monkeys, and cause us to lose focus on what really matters.

In this blog, I want to address some of the common distractions that can prevent us from achieving our full potential and offer some tips to help you find clarity and direction.

1. LACK OF CLARITY

This is the biggest single reason why distraction takes hold.

When you’re not clear on what you want to achieve and why, it’s easy to get pulled in different directions.

TAKE ACTION: Spend time reflecting on your own vision for your business, your goals and your values, and make sure the actions you’re taking align with them. Having a clarity will help you stay focused and motivated.

2. NO CLEAR FOCUS AND DIRECTION

Similar to a lack of clarity, not having a clear focus and direction can lead to a serious lack of progress.

If you don’t know where you’re going, how do you ever hope to get there?

Distractions will keep popping-up and pulling you off track, and every time that happens it can be harder and harder to get back on it!

TAKE ACTION: Define your expert niche, target market, and offer journey. Set yourself clearly defined goals. Create a roadmap for how you’re going to reach your goals and when you’ll know you’re there.

Having a clear plan will help you stay on track and make progress towards your vision.

3. STUCK IN LEARNING-MODE

I get it – there’s a whole universe of information calling your name!

It’s easy to get caught-up in the excitement of learning new things – about yourself and your business – but if you’re not careful, you can end up spending all your time consuming information that isn’t actually relevant for business growth.

As a new business owner, use your passion for learning to up-level your business, marketing and success mindset skills.

Take what you learn and put it into action.

This is the kind of learning and development that will sky-rocket your success.

TAKE ACTION: Take a subjective look at your business to identify the gaps and opportunities and focus in on what will move the needle the most.

Decide on your focus and select one or two mentors / mentoring groups to learn through.

And make sure you’re spending the majority of your time taking action.

4. TRYING ALL THE STRATEGIES AND TACTICS

It’s tempting to want to try every strategy and tactic under the sun to see what works, but this can be a major distraction.

The best way forward is to get super clear on exactly what you want, why you want it, and how it should look, then identify the strategies and tactics that will bring that specific vision to life.

TAKE ACTION: Instead of constantly chasing the next shiny object, focus on a few key strategies that align with your vision and goals and stick with them. Give each strategy time to work before moving on to the next.

5. TWEAKING TWEAKING TWEAKING

Following on from number 4, while it is important to continually improve and refine, it’s way too easy to get stuck in a cycle of constantly tweaking and never launching.

My philosophy is ‘get it done and move on’

If you constantly change everything, both you and your community get confused and overwhelmed!

Get it out there, let it breathe, get feedback, work it until it works, allow yourself and your community to truly understand what it is you offer.

TAKE ACTION: Set a deadline for when you’re going to launch, and stick to it. Remember, done is better than perfect.

6. DOOM-SCROLLING THE SOCIALS

Social media can be a major time-suck, and it’s easy to get caught up in obsessing about what everyone else is doing and finding your own business lacking.

This clearly pushes you directly into lack-energy which is only gonna attract more lack!

Remember that everyone’s journey is different, and what works for someone else may not work for you.

TAKE ACTION: Get super clear on exactly what YOU want to limit the temptation to compare yourself to others.

Also limit your time on social media and focus on your own progress and growth.

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”

– Jim Rohn

7. COMPARISONITIS AND SELF-SABOTAGE

It’s important to recognise when you’re getting in your own way.

A very big symptom you may recognise is your own frustration levels rising at an alarming pace!

This is because you are constantly being pulled off course and it’s sucking the belief, ambition and confidence right out of you.

You find yourself doom-scrolling, procrastinating, tweaking and all-the-things until your head wants to explode!

TAKE ACTION: Practice self-awareness and self-compassion. Recognise when this is happening and ask yourself why. ALWAYS go back to your OWN vision and surround yourself with a supportive community who will lift you up.

8. HELD HOSTAGE BY YOUR EGO

As solopreneurs, we are the face of our businesses, so it’s easy to confuse ‘business success / failure’ with ‘personal success / failure’.

You’ll know your ego is in the driving seat when ever little thing triggers you, ‘defensive’ is your standard operating mode, and you’re making decisions to do things from a place of ‘should’ rather than what feels good an aligned to you.

TAKE ACTION: Read ‘Ego Is The Enemy’ by Ryan Holliday. It’s a complete life-saver!

Don’t be afraid to ask for help or admit when you don’t know something.

Surround yourself with a supportive community who will help you grow and improve.

In summary, as a solopreneur it’s easy to get distracted by the many challenges that come with starting and growing a business.

Clarity really holds the key to your wonderfully impactful castle!

By getting lazer-focussed on your own vision, goals and values, staying focused on a few key strategies, and surrounding yourself with a supportive community, you can eliminate distractions and achieve your full potential.
