Unleash the Super Powers of Purpose and Vision

I spent years being a legal secretary and drifting from job to job. I fell into marketing and then spent years in the corporate world, working ridiculously long hours for people who would take as much as I could give.

It was only when I unleashed the true power of purpose and vision that everything changed for me – and it’s what has lead me to living a life I love now, being my absolute true self and serving people from a place of such deep joy it’s unnerving!

But let’s stop there for a second, because for me it all started way before I’d even heard there was such a thing as ‘purpose’.

For me it all started when one very special person ignited my Passion…

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah interviewed some pretty incredible people on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and she was a massive source of inspiration for me.

I learned LOADS of cool stuff watching her show.

  1. But there’s TWO things that have stayed with me all these years:Turn your PASSION into your BUSINESS and you’ll always be rich and happy.
  2. Watching Oprah ignited a spark in me – I wanted to be just like her – sharing really useful information with people and making them feel as inspired and motivated as she made me feel.

So basically, all those years ago, Oprah Winfrey helped me realise that my PASSION is to inspire and motivate people.

But like I said, back then I hadn’t even heard of Purpose, and it was only 20 years later that I realised…

passion without purpose will only get you so far!

The road isn’t always smooth, and we don’t always end up exactly where we thought we’d be.

My passion lead me to study Psychology at University, because I was driven to understand people on a deeper level.  I wanted to understand why we behave the way we do, and I wanted to learn HOW to inspire and motivate people

Aka Be More Oprah

Ironically, studying Psychology also made me realise I wanted to be in the world of Business.

Go figure!

I realised that, as much as I loved studying Psychology, I preferred order and structure, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure I could handle the emotional aspects of being a psychologist.

So I ended up leaving University – without completely finishing my degree – and entering the world of work!

I became a legal secretary, and I was good at it. I quickly became a senior PA for the head of a big national law firm.

I realised I could use what I’d learned in psychology, and my love of inspiring and motivating people, to be a better PA.

After several years as a PA, I fell into marketing and went back to college to learn the ropes.

I quickly realised that marketing is all about human behaviour and motivation, so by some happy coincidence I’d fallen into an industry that played to my strengths!

Studying marketing lit me up, made me feel inspired and excited, and I knew I’d finally – at the ripe old age of 28(!) –  found something I really loved to do.

So that was the start of my marketing career.

I did really well, worked my way up from Coordinator to Head of Marketing for a big corporate, I was earning good money, on paper everything was great.

But I wasn’t really happy, I wasn’t excited to go to work in the morning.

I loved the marketing, but I wanted more.

Something was still missing…

I needed to take HUGE ACTION.

So in 2012 I left my well-paid job and opened my marketing consultancy.

BUT…I kept playing small. I stayed in my comfort zone.

I still worked for the big corporates, but as a consultant instead of being employed.

It felt better, I felt more in control, I was still helping and inspiring people…but I knew I was destined for more.

My Purpose was calling – I just didn’t know it yet.

The first step to finding our Purpose is to understand what we are Passionate about.

As I said, Oprah helped me realise my Passion with a massive AHA moment when I was around 13 years old.

Unfortunately, that light bulb moment doesn’t always happen by itself, and lots of people go their whole lives without really knowing what brings them joy.

This can lead to feeling demotivated, dissatisfied and directionless – in all areas of our lives.

Igniting your true passion, and ACTIVATING it with PURPOSE, is the first step to unlocking your path to success.

The good news is, there is a way to figure out what you’re passionate about without having to rely on a Light Bulb moment that may or may not ever come.

Think of it this way –

Your PASSION is made up of gifts you were born with –

  • the things that come easily to you
  • the things that really fill your heart with joy
  • get your blood racing

There are three questions that will help you uncover your passion, they are…

  • What do I absolutely love to do?
  • What comes easy to me?
  • Who and what inspires me?

I encourage you to write those down and spend a bit of time thinking about the answers.

Now, you may wonder why you need to think about this at all – because if it’s something we are born with, surely it will naturally lead us to the right things.

Well, yes it will get you some of the way, but it won’t get you all the way to achieving your TRUE POTENTIAL.

To achieve your true potential, your passions need to be focussed into a PURPOSE.

Funnily enough, it was another random AHA moment that activated my passion into a very specific purpose.

It happened at a ladies networking event I attended 4 years after I’d started my marketing consultancy.

At that event, I met women who were creating successful businesses, doing what they loved AND adding value to people’s lives.

During conversations with a few of the women I gave them some marketing and business advice, and it was like I’d taught them to secret to making GOLD!

They became animated, excited, motivated.

A few even contacted me the next day to ask if we could work together.

This was a complete revelation!

I’d found my Tribe – the audience I wanted to serve.

I’d discovered my WHO!

So now I had my WHAT – to motivate and inspire. I had my WHO – female entrepreneurs…Now what???

It was only when I went on to uncover the true PURPOSE behind my WHO and WHAT that changed everything.

So…what is Purpose and how do we discover it?

Your purpose is literally born out of your passions – which is why it’s so important to take the time to properly understand them!

Your purpose is the central motivating aim of your life—the reason you get up in the morning.

Purpose guides decisions and gives our lives a sense of direction and meaning.

Your purpose is unique to you, and will probably shift and evolve throughout your life

But when purpose is built on your PASSION, it’ POWER will always guide you in the right direction.

You can TRUST your purpose.

When you are living your purpose, you remain confident, clear and focussed.

You live life to the full with happiness and joy, AND you are much more likely to achieve personal and professional success.

So there I was, living life knowing my passion was to inspire and motivate people, but I didn’t truly know why I felt this way, and I was struggling to know how to turn my passion into a proper business – which is what I wanted for myself.

Then again, quite by accident, I had another AHA moment!

I met a coach who introduced me to SEVEN LEVELS DEEP!

This is the secret to getting to the heart of ANYTHING – I use this technique in loads of different areas in my life – including in business.

It sounds simple, but this is deep reflection work, and it’s much better to buddy up with someone to help you work through it.

Going it alone will often see you stuck at level 3.  Having a buddy push you through will get you through all Seven Levels!

So, what’s this all about?

Go back to the three questions we asked a few minutes ago…

  • What do I absolutely love to do?
  • What comes easy to me?
  • Who and what inspires me?

Working with one answer at a time, repeat the answer back to yourself as a question.

Do this SEVEN TIMES.

Literally.

So, here’s my example:

What do I love to do?

I love to motivate and inspire people

WHY do you love to motivate and inspire people?

Because I like to help people be successful

WHY do you like to help people be successful?

Because I want people to feel good at achieving something

WHY do you want people to feel good at achieving something?…

You get the gist!

Every time you go a level deeper, you get closer to the absolute truth of the matter.

For me, my SEVENTH ANSWER took me by complete surprise! In fact it pretty much floored me and made me cry.

Realising it unblocked years of hurt and confusion I’d been carrying like a weight around my neck!

My seventh answer was that  at school I felt stupid, left behind, and that I couldn’t achieve the results I wanted.

I didn’t really have anyone inspiring and motivating me to do well, and I didn’t really believe in myself.

AAAAHHHHH…THIS is why my passion is to inspire and motivate people!!

It’s because I never want anyone to feel the way I did in school!

LIGHT BULB MOMENT!!!

I scraped by in school, barely getting the grades I needed to get into university.

But when I went to university, something interesting happened…

Studying Psychology brought me to life.

I loved it, felt passionate about it, and did incredibly well all through university, achieving marks I would never have dreamt were possible in school.

It taught me a valuable lesson:

I am capable of more than I think.

It wasn’t that I was stupid or couldn’t achieve the results I wanted, because I did achieve incredible results.

It made me realise that we are all capable of more than we think, and sometimes we need someone to help us see that.

I realised that, because I’d felt alone, incapable, uninspired and demotivated all through school – I wanted to do all I could to make sure no-one else felt that way.

This is where my PASSION for inspiring and motivating people comes from.

It’s because I never want anyone to feel they can’t.

So…where are we up to…

  • Oprah Winfrey helped me to realise WHAT I wanted to do.
  • Attending that networking event made me realise WHO I wanted to serve.
  • Going SEVEN LEVELS DEEP helped me to realise WHY I needed to do this to feel truly happy and fulfilled.

Tapping into that deeper PURPOSE turned my passion into a feeling of responsibility –

I feel it’s my RESPONSIBILITY to show people they can achieve whatever they set their minds to.

Once I’d had that Seven Levels Deep breakthrough, I realised it was time to step out of my comfort zone and stop playing small if I ever wanted to achieve real fulfilment.

So I stopped working with big nameless faceless corporates, and started working with people who had the courage and bravery to start their own business.

Getting really clear on my purpose, and taking the brave step to change the focus of my business, quickly lead to me becoming a Coach and also launching The High Vibe Society – these are the vehicles for me to inspire and motivate people to believe in themselves.

Activating my Purpose changed my life.

So, with my passions in lock-down and my purpose at the centre of my new business, it was time to get serious about my Vision.

Most of us have a vision of what we’d like our life to look like in say, 5 years time.

I’m an incredibly ambitious person, so for me, Vision is everything.

VISION isn’t just about clarifying WHAT YOU WANT – it’s about DEFINING WHO YOU WANT TO BE.

Your Vision will inspire you, keep you focused and motivated, keep you on track and working towards your fulfilling your purpose.

Your vision is what you want to achieve in the long term.

Greatness is built on insight, acquired wisdom, and a unique VISION

So, how do we figure out what our vision is??

To define our vision let’s answer some 5 year’s time questions…

  • Where am I living?
  • Who am I with?
  • What am I doing?
  • How do I spend my spare time?
  • What does my working week look like?
  • How do I feel?

String it together in a sentence, for example, for me it’s…

In 5 years’ time I’m Living in Portugal with my husband and cats; kayaking in the ocean, swimming in my own pool, working closely with my clients three days a week, while my automated systems work hard in the background, and I feel financially stable, happy, successful and content…

Take a few moments now to write down the questions so you have them for later.

Answering those questions and putting them into one sentence is a very effective way of figuring out your vision and I encourage you to take the time to do this.

Now we’ve looked at 5 years’ time here, but it could be 1 year, or 10 years, or 20 years, and in fact I encourage you throughout your life to question your vision, push it, stretch it, and keep re-setting it.

But vision is only one part of the equation.

Vision without a goal is a fantasy. Vision with a goal becomes reality.

Yes, it’s time to set very specific goals to help you achieve your vision.

There are a few methods for goal setting, but I like to break them down into Short, Medium and Long Term Goals.

For my current 5 year vision, I could break it down like this:

  • In 1 year I want to have built automated systems that free me up to focus on service and delivery.
  • In 3 year’s I want to be working 3 days a week, relying on my systems to pick up the slack.
  • In 4 years I want to relocate to Portugal.
  • In year 5 I’m buying the kayak and putting in the pool!!!

Breaking down my vision like this gives me bite-sized objectives to work towards and makes the whole thing seem less daunting.

It also means I accomplish goals more often, which makes me feel good and keeps me motivated to work towards the next goal.

The next step is to set SMART Goals for each of your short, medium and long term goals.

Remember, SMART Goals are Specific. Measurable. Achievable. Relevant. Timed.

So I need a very specific plan in place to get me to year 1 with automated systems.

I set the plan out step by step, listing everything I need to do to get me there, giving myself deadlines and breaking it down to make it feel more achievable.

Setting Goals is what will bring your Vision to life and give you the step-by-step path to make your glorious vision a reality.

Be realistic but push yourself.

REMEMBER – DREAM BIG, STAY TRUE TO YOUR PURPOSE, WORK TOWARDS YOUR VISION, AND FOCUS ON SUCCESS.
